About Dr. Janine Oliver
Janine Oliver, MD, specializes in reconstructive surgeries of the female pelvic floor, including surgical repairs of incontinence, fistulae and pelvic organ prolapse. Dr. Oliver earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She went on to complete a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied both urogynecology and urology. She is one of a small number of reconstructive urologists trained to perform complete mesh removal and advanced techniques of female pelvic floor reconstruction using native tissue or fascia.
Dr. Oliver has conducted research on a breadth of urologic topics. A number of medical journals have featured her research on robotic repair of pelvic organ prolapse, mesh-related complications, voiding dysfunction and new surgical techniques for repair of complex female pelvic floor disorders.
Her approach to care involves looking comprehensively at the health of a woman’s pelvic floor. Since multiple conditions often affect the pelvic floor simultaneously, Dr. Oliver evaluates how the system’s complex interactions can impact treatment. She then works with each patient to review the best surgical and nonsurgical options for her unique diagnoses, including those that incorporate the latest methods, such as robotic surgery.
Dr. Oliver chose female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery as her specialty because she is passionate about promoting awareness of pelvic floor disorders and decreasing the silent suffering many women experience. She finds her day-to-day work very rewarding, because it allows her to see firsthand how treatment improves the lives of her patients and helps them return to the activities they love.
In her free time, Dr. Oliver enjoys hiking and backcountry snowboarding, and she is always eager to share her appreciation for wildlife and nature conservancy with others.
