CU participated in a national survey of gynecology residents
CU’s Urogynecology and Gynecologic Oncologists recently participated in a national survey of 136 directors to gauge preparedness of OB-GYN residents for fellowship training. While the fellows performed adequately in four areas of evaluation, they were alarmingly unprepared for independent practice of surgery, with only 20 percent of first-year fellows able to independently perform a vaginal hysterectomy.
The program directors’ conclusion, published in the medical journal, Obstetrics and Gynecology, is that graduating residents may be unprepared for advanced subspecialty training.
