The University Difference

We’re different from private urogynecology practices in Colorado, and we’re proud of it

As both healers and professors, our urogynecologists are at the forefront of clinical research and trials, ensuring your care is backed by the latest evidence-based medicine.

Like other urogynecology and female pelvic medicine groups in Colorado, our physicians have access to cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment and technology – including minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

From a clinical viewpoint, however, that’s where the similarities end.

Researchers & leaders in medical advances

Doctors in private practice look to studies for the latest medical advances, while our doctors are the researchers behind published findings.

When our clinicians aren’t with patients, they are working to advance the science of urogynecology treatment through research and education. They collaborate with the top minds in the field, publishing their findings and presenting their research internationally.

This focus on the continual advance and emersion in the field of urogynecology means that your individualized treatment is guided by the latest, most comprehensive evidence-based medicine.

What is evidence-based medicine?

Evidence-based medicine is a type of decision-making in healthcare that focuses on the use of evidence from well-designed, well-executed research. It focuses less on the beliefs and decisions of an individual physician or group of doctors, and relies on methodology to review medical case evidence (assess the quality of evidence, analyze statistical measures and consider the quality of clinical trials) and treat each new patient case as unique.

University of Colorado urogynecologists use only the most up-to-date and rigorously tested techniques to ensure successful patient outcomes.

Our doctors are not bashful about their research and academic achievements. Read more about the urogynecology team and their accolades.

Patient safety at UCH

Another feature of academic hospitals is the consistent focus on safety. It’s not something that is simply taught to future doctors; rather it’s institutionalized and practiced as a central operation of the hospital.

As part of the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) – an alliance of 118 academic medical centers representing the nation’s leading academic medical centers – UCH received the number one spot for patient safety in 2011 and 2012.

Additionally, in 2013 UCH was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the top hospital in Colorado. As part of the recognition, which takes into account “success in keeping patients safe,” gynecology at UCH was ranked as top performing in the state.

More About Patient Safety

Quality care before profits

Our urogynecologists are focused on providing personalized, tailored treatments for their patients. With access to an intensive care unit and multiple teams of subspecialists in female health, it’s easy to understand why prospective patients may expect a higher cost for care. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Unlike private practices that may push patients into costly surgery instead of pursuing less-invasive methods of care, our doctors are committed to quality medicine before profits. While that may sound like a tagline, UCH does not drive a bottom-line because it doesn’t have to. Our hospital is backed by many sources and is not simply funded by medical procedures.
